How We Celebrated Juneteenth

In celebration of Juneteenth one of our authors Amari Bingham was a VIP guest of Mayor Hazelle Rogers, Lauderdale Lakes at this Drive In Movie in celebration of Juneteenth, 156 years of freedom.

Dr. John spent her day in East Hartford celebrating Juneteenth. The event was held on the East Hartford town green from 11AM-3PM and featured vendors, tents, tables and decor displaying products and services. The event was sponsored by the EH Mayor and Commission of Fine Arts and Council; it was hosted by Harry Amadasun, Jr. Programming included introduction from Rosamond White, Councilman Don Bell shared the history of Juneteenth, gospel, reggae, calypso, old school hip hop music, dance, and spoken word from the poet called Energy. 

East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh spoke as well;

Governor Lamont was presented an East Hartford shirt, and Senator Anwar and other elected officials were also present.




A Professor from Wesleyan university taught Ghanaian dance and a dance troupe showcased several styles of dance from the diaspora.


Lauren Simone Publishing also had their own table featuring our books and we had lots of great customers!
