In a world brimming with stories waiting to be discovered, Sherona Campbell stands out as a beacon for readers seeking authentic Black narratives. Born and raised in Connecticut to parents of Jamaican heritage, Sherona’s literary journey began long before she donned her Pace University cap and gown. Today, she’s not only a devoted bibliophile but also the visionary founder of The Narrative, a subscription box service dedicated exclusively to books by Black authors.
Early Roots and Academic Journey
Growing up in a household where Jamaican folklore mingled with classic literature, Sherona developed an insatiable appetite for stories that celebrated culture, resilience, and identity. Her childhood bookshelf overflowed with everything from Zora Neale Hurston’s lyrical prose to Toni Morrison’s profound explorations of memory and community. At Pace University, Sherona majored in Business Administration. She also immersed herself in courses on postcolonial voices and diaspora studies. This academic foundation deepened her understanding of the power of representation—and planted the seeds for her entrepreneurial dream.
The Birth of “The Narrative”
In April 2024, Sherona launched The Narrative. She is an avid reader who loves sharing the books she read. After receiving several DMs asking her how she was able to read so much and what she recommended, she saw a need to fulfill. More than just a box of books, The Narrative is a carefully curated experience: each month subscribers receive a newly released novel or memoir by a Black author, accompanied by tea-blend, accessories from Black-owned businesses. Sherona’s goal? To bridge the gap between readers and emerging voices, ensuring that important stories don’t get lost in the shuffle of mainstream publishing.
Podcasting Feature
"I Just Read This Book” podcast by Taylor J. Bridgeforth features Sherona on Juneteenth to promote a Black Woman in Business —where she dives deeper into the books she features. Listeners praise Sherona’s warm interview style and her knack for asking the questions that reveal an author’s heart and craft. As The Narrative grows, Sherona remains committed to uplifting underrepresented voices. Future plans include book reviews, virtual author meet‑and‑greets, community reading challenges, and scholarships for emerging Black writers.
Whether you’re a lifelong reader or someone looking to discover new perspectives, Sherona Campbell’s work is an invitation to engage, reflect, and connect.
