Charter Oak Cultural Center is a vibrant multi-cultural arts center. We chose this charity for personal and professional reasons. First, Dr. John was invited to read her book at at Story Time. We sincerely appreciated being welcomed by the center. Second, Olivia attended as a student in their hip hop dance and writing workshops prior to COVID. Third, one of the faculty members, Rabbi Donna Berman published her book, The Painted Sky with us.
Finally and most importantly, and they are committed to doing the work of social justice through the arts.
Their Youth Arts Institute offers audition and tuition-free classes in the arts to Hartford youth ages six through eighteen.
Their Beat of the Street programming provides educational and employment opportunities to the homeless community.
Their professional multicultural performances and exhibits provide access to the arts for everyone because no one is ever turned away due to lack of funds.
They are stewards of the historic building we call home, the first synagogue build in Connecticut, and are dedicated to preserving the building and its inspiring legacy!
