There are moments as an author and publisher when you pause and realize that the work — the long nights, the storytelling, the commitment to representation — is reaching people in meaningful ways.
Recently, I had one of those moments during our interview about Olivia Dives In, and I’m excited to invite you to experience it with us.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lucy Gellman of the New Haven Independent community radio family. Lucy is known throughout New Haven for uplifting artists, writers, and community voices through thoughtful conversations that go far beyond promotion — they explore purpose, creativity, and impact. Through her work with WNHH community radio, she continues to create space for stories that matter and for voices that reflect the richness of our communities.

During the interview, we talked about the heart behind Olivia Dives In — how stories can help children see themselves, build confidence, and learn through imagination. We discussed representation in children’s literature, the journey from idea to publication, and why creating books that affirm young readers is not just important — it is necessary.
What made the conversation especially meaningful was the way it connected storytelling to community. The discussion reminded me that books are not simply products; they are bridges. They help children ask questions, parents start conversations, and educators create spaces where every child feels seen.
If you are passionate about literacy, diverse books, or simply enjoy hearing the story behind the story, I invite you to watch the full interview.

I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. Thank you for continuing to support this journey, our books, and the mission to ensure that every child can find themselves on the page
