Today, I had the honor of attending the Career Everywhere Celebration at the University of Connecticut after being nominated for the Employer Alumni Career Advocate of the Year Award. While I did not receive the award, I was incredibly grateful to be recognized, reconnect with my graduate alma mater, and celebrate the many individuals committed to supporting students' career development.

The event featured remarks from Nathan Fuerst, whose message reinforced the importance of creating opportunities that prepare students for meaningful careers.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing these kind words from Olivia Maffucci on the message board:
"Melissa Sue has been a generous and inspiring supporter of students this year, sharing her experience as the owner of the publishing company to help students explore creative and entrepreneurial career paths. She has encouraged students to consider how their ideas and talents can become meaningful projects and lead to career opportunity."
As the CEO of Lauren Simone Publishing and a proud UConn alumna, I remain committed to mentoring students and helping them see possibilities beyond traditional career paths.
This experience also reminded me of an important lesson: success is not always what you see. It is easy to appear polished when no one sees the work, setbacks, sacrifices, and perseverance behind the scenes. Awards are wonderful, but they are not the only measure of impact.
We all grow at different rates, follow different journeys, and reach milestones in our own time—and that is more than okay. Keep doing the work, keep investing in others, and trust that your efforts matter, even when they are not immediately recognized.
