Raised in Manchester, Justis Lopez has always embodied the spirit of service and intellectual curiosity. He began his academic journey at the University of Connecticut, where he completed his undergraduate studies, before earning his master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. His educational path ultimately led him to Harvard, where his doctoral work further strengthened his dedication to equity, learning, and transformative leadership.
Today, he resides in Washington, DC with his wife, continuing to expand his influence both locally and globally.

Dr. Lopez is far more than a scholar. He is an educator, DJ, poet, activist, and the co-founder of The Open Mic Movement in Education — a platform that amplifies student voice, creativity, and healing through expression. His work bridges classrooms and communities, blending art, scholarship, and activism to elevate humanity.
Whether organizing within communities, mentoring young leaders, or speaking on college campuses, Justis inspires audiences to imagine education as a pathway toward collective liberation. When he is not spending time with family or engaging in community organizing near and abroad, you can often find him hiking, meditating in nature, or delivering powerful keynote speeches that challenge and uplift audiences.
