We loved, loved, loved this book!!!
To be honest when we first received a complimentary copy of this book, I was hesitant to read the book at first because it was about animals. The Cooperative Children’s Book Center (2015) reported that of all children’s books 73.3% were White characters, 12.5% were about animals and trucks, 7.6% about Africans, 3.3% on Asian Americans, 2.4% on Latinos, and 0.9% on Native Americans. For this reason, we try to review as many diverse children’s book that are diverse in characters and representative of our audience. However, the author of the book pleasantly surprised us with a fun story that was rhythmic, easy to read, had a great lesson, and enjoyable for all children and adults alike. In the end the book was totally about diversity and inclusivity!!!
Brady is the smallest dog of his breed. He is playing with his puppy friends and realizes he can’t keep up with them.
He finds smaller playmates and has a good time but soon looses track of them time and fears he will miss pick up day. Pick up day is when families choose their puppy to make a part of their family.
The illustrator and graphic designer truly did an amazing job making sure every detail of the story was expressed, emphasized and elaborated. Hey, I just made an alliteration! They even foreshadow the next book showing the relationship between the animal friends. The illustrations were bright, beautiful, and basically on point with the story. Two is a charm. There were so many added features that impressed us as publishers. The dedication was heartwarming and gave insight to the special kind of person the author must be. "This book belongs to" page was also beautifully illustrated.
The story has a lovely ending showing that although we are all different, there is someone special waiting to love us! In the meantime, learn to love yourself!
The Little Labradoodle: Puppy Pickup Day also comes with a companion Coloring Book, Lesson Plan, Little Labradoodle Plush, eBook, and Audio Book.
We give this book FIVE STARS.
